The girls are starting to lay more eggs! As in, sometimes we get two eggs in one day! We stopped getting two eggs/day in early December. We never got three eggs in one day last year. Somebody laid fairly regularly -- 5 or 6 eggs/week -- throughout December, January and half of February. I think it was one chicken bc the eggs looked very similar although, without a nestcam, I don't know for sure.
Anyway, someone else has been upping production lately and now we get two eggs most days. We still have the occasional one egg- or no-egg day. And there's been one wonky egg -- a shell-less egg -- laid. That can happen a) with a new layer; b) at the beginning and/or end of the hen's laying season; or c) if the chicken has a problem forming a shell.
Here are some recent eggs:
I'm very much looking forward to the day we get three eggs! Right now, I'm still buying eggs at the store. I eat more eggs than the average bear bc I'm working my way toward vegetarianism. I usually have a few hard cooked eggs on hand, although I use the store eggs for that at the moment. I eat the girls' eggs for breakfast, e.g., poached or fried. Mmmmmm.
Keep up the good work, girls!
