Nosey's taken to snoozing in these metal tubs. I brought them in for something at work, no longer needed them there and brought them back home. I had originally bought them to hold kindling and smaller pieces of firewood. I just left them by the fireplace. The cats seemed very interested in them so I thought, Hmm. Would the cats hang out in them if I put something cozy in there?
Well, some days it seems like that all Nosey does. The one he's in here is actually a little big; the other one is perfectly Nosey-sized and is the one he usually snoozes in. We call them the cats' bin, hence the name Nosey bin Snoozin. There's a towel under one of them bc its bottom is a little uneven. When Nosey would go in it without the towel underneath, it would rock ever so slightly, which he found very offputting and he would leave immediately.
I think Nosey was born set in his ways. He likes things just so or, as we say, he likes things the way he likes things. The blankets need to be fairly smooth before he'll settle down on them. His baby food needs to be on the bathmat in the bathroom before he enters to eat (he eats separately bc otherwise the others would eat his baby food). When I take the bathmats out to wash them and he has to eat without the mats in there, it throws him off his stride a little.
He only started eating baby food a couple of years ago when he was sick, lost a bunch of weight and needed to gain some back. He does not eat wet cat food; never has. He does eat dry food, but that wasn't going to be enough to put weight back on. He doesn't eat chicken, fish, beef, turkey, smelts...wait a minute, who does eat smelts? A freshly baked chicken is safe with him. But he would eat baby food, specifically Beech Nut Stage 1 Chicken. Not Gerber. No other stage. No other flavor.
So he then got into the routine of eating baby food at breakfast and dinner. He wouldn't go back to eating just dry food. Whenever we fed the other cats, he'd hang around waiting for us to bring his baby food into the bathroom. So yeah, our cat eats 1.5 jars of Beech Nut Stage 1 Chicken baby food each day.
We didn't try very hard to break him of the habit bc the chicken baby food is pretty much pure protein and it's so much better for him than all the dry food he was eating. This way, since he won't eat wet food, he eats the baby food and eats less dry food. I'll guess he was raised eating only dry food and that's what he got used to and what Nosey gets used to is pretty much what Nosey wants. And, as we say around here, what Nosey wants Nosey gets.
I love this picture of Nosey peering over the edge of the bin. I wonder if every cat person thinks their cat is the most adorable creature ever. Thing is, I know mine are.
Yes, mine are the most adorable, of course. But Nosey is awfully handsome. Thanks for the baby food tip - I had no idea there was such variety. I can only imagine you trying thousands of different things to tempt him to eat while he was wasting away.
