It seems like just yesterday that little Edison came to our home. He was so scared!
But he was so cute, too! Everyone fussed over him and his cuteness. He wasn't always sure what to make of others' enthusiasm.
He very quickly learned that people were good news: we brought food, love, warm laps and fun.
He was pretty good at making his own fun, too.
He quickly outgrew his original room, a half-bath, and took over the den. He still takes his meals in the den...
...maintains his toilette there,...
...and sleeps there.
He started to explore outside the den, sending faxes,...
...assisting Kevin when he works from home,...
...and when he's working on a puzzle,...
...finding a soft blanket,...
...and another soft blanket,...
...and the big bed and a favorite toy,...
...lolling around in the sun on the porch on a balmy January afternoon,...
...and generally growing into a rambunctious teenager, all the while unaware that, soon, very soon, his life was going to change. Drastically. Yes, Edison underwent his nutectomy this past Monday (at the bottom of the linked page, you can click to view a slide show of a neutering, if you're into that sort of thing). He checked in and out of the vet the same day. He went for his echocardiogram and Dr. Straus gave him the all clear to go ahead with The Procedure. Eddie does have some kind of malfunction in his heart, but it's minor and there's no need to worry about putting him under.
Since our regular vet, Dr. Slade, is a housecall vet (for the most part), Eddie had his procedure done at a vet where Dr. Slade works 1 day each week to keep her finger in on new stuff. She didn't perform his procedure; she doesn't do surgery; the regular surgeon guy there did it. They did use a certain anesthesia bco his heart murmur, but he did very well.
Drop off is at 8:30 am - so early! too early for me - and Kevin was off from work bco MLK, Jr. Day, so he brought him in. As the tech took Eddie away, he looked over the tech's shoulder at Kevin w/big, wide eyes, inducing no small amount of guilt in Kevin.
It was probably just in time, too, bc he seemed to have quite the growth spurt in the last couple of weeks. He was a little kitten with little kitten parts and then, all of a sudden, he was walking around like John Wayne with big boy parts. He was also driving Nosey and Smudge nuts (no pun was intended, but I'll leave it be) with his rambunctiousness, chasing after them, jumping them, etc. While I'm happy to see him play, it was really annoying the others. You know, they're just trying to get their 16 hours of daily sleep and he won't let them. I'm hoping his recent surgery will dampen his enthusiasm for aerial assaults on his brothers.
We also had basic bloodwork done iot have baseline results for him. Also, tests for FIV and FeLV. We didn't think he was sick w/anything, but wanted test confirmation.
Aftercare was supposed to mean discouraging rigorous activity and play, but that didn't really happen. We kept him confined until the next day. He's recovering very well: good energy, good appetite, no problems with his surgery site, etc. I'll leave you with a picture of him resting. This is the same box as in the first picture above. It was a box house made for him by the girl in the second picture. He outgrew it as originally constructed. We cut the front off and turned it on his side to make it a soft, cozy place for him to recuperate. Rest well, little one!
What a very beautiful little tuxedo kitty! Glad he's back at home! Terrific photos!

Thank you! We're enjoying him very much. And I think he's enjoying himself here, too.
