Monday Cat Blogging: How Much Is That Kitty In The Window?

Dscn1850 Here's little Edison, hanging out on the porch.  He's not interacting w/the other kitties, although they have seen him.  E.g., when Kevin brought him out to the porch for a while, he kept a very close eye on Edison.  Fortunately, none of the others seem agitated about him whatsoever.  A mite curious, perhaps, but that's it.  Edison seems a bit overwhelmed by things: he's not quick to go exploring and spends most of his time out and about on Kevin's lap or right next to Kevin. He sat on Kevin's lap from the 4th quarter of the Jets game all the way through the entire Giants game!  Kittens can be crazed with energy and activity.  I hope this little guy is just a mellow cat and that there's nothing wrong with him that makes him seem less energetic.  He appears to be healthy.  He sneezed once since Wednesday, when he arrived.  That's the only thing he's done that's less than optimal, but we're all entitled to a sneeze now and then.  This picture shows you just how teeny and weeny a little kitten he is.

He's coming along very well.  He's a real lap kitten.  I wonder if that means he'll grow up to be a lap cat.  Is there anything better than a lap cat?  I think not.  He's nervous in new situations, e.g., going into a new room in the house.  He and Kevin played with a piece of yarn and a shmousie yesterday.  Since he seems so mellow otherwise, it wasDscn1854  good to see him playing like a kitten.  He was very interested in that shmousie. It's just one of those little shmousies with what I'll guess is rabbit fur on it, but Edison couldn't get his tiny little mouth around it to get a good grip on his prey!  He batted it around quite a bit, though.

It's kind of fun having a little kitten in the house.  We adopted all of our cats as adults.  Kevin's never had a kitten in his life (his childhood cats were all at least young adults at adoption) and the last time I had a kitten in my life was when I was a kitten myself.  Of course, we see kittens at the shelter, but it's different having one in your home.  I guess that's what people mean when they say how nice it is to have a baby in the house.  I spent a lot of time with a former neighbor when their daughter was born and that was fun.  When their twins were born about 1.5 years later, it reminded me of all the stages their big sister had gone through when she was just an itty bitty little thing.  And I kind of missed that.  And they're not even my kids!

Dr. Slade comes tomorrow to see little Edison, give him the once over and get him started on routine care, shots, etc..  Clara, too, bc she failed her titer for some shot or another, so she has to get a booster.  Clara is not going to be pleased about being confined.  The doctor doesn't need a sample, so Clara doesn't need to be confined overnight, but maybe that's what we'll do anyway, to make sure she's available when Dscn1852 Dr. Slade gets here tomorrow morning.  I don't like to leave it until the morning of the visit jic we're unable to confine her.  I'll probably toss Smudge in there with her.  He's not on the appointment, but his right eye looks a little red and has a little crustiness to it, so I'd like her to look at that, too.

Well, I have to get going.  I'm an hour behind on The Plan already!
